While the 16th and 17th centuries in Galicia were generally characterised by the profound dearth of literary activity brought about by the erasure of the Galician language from most written contexts and the absence of a distinctively Galician literary discourse, the period did manage to produce a small body of literature. The latest anthology in the A nosa literatura series includes poetry (anonymous folk poems, Christmas carols, and academic Renaissance and Baroque verse), prose texts, examples of Galician Enlightenment thought, and the play, A contenda dos labradores de Caldelas, by Gabriel Feixó de Araúxo.
