The latest addition to the Historia da Literatura Galega series is an anthology of 95 religious cantigas by Alfonso X from the troubadour period in Galician-Portuguese poetry. Based on the total corpus of Santa María cantigas collected in the Toledo codex, Ferreiro and Martínez Pereiro’s selection offers readers a sense of both the aesthetic quality of the poetry and the range of different cantiga styles cultivated by the poet-king that included anecdotes, liturgical poems and songs of praise.
